A new website carapa.org. After several years, carapa.org is being renewed. The goal of this site is to become an international (french, english) on line portal to share information about trees of genus Carapa in the mahogany famlily (Meliaceae). The aim is to present knowledge on scientific and socio-economic studies on biology and uses of a natural resource with many advantages and benefits for animals and human beings inhabiting tropical Africa and America. Carapa trees are indeed a sustainable source of food for the frugivores wild fauna and a valuable source of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) and cash income for indigenous populations as long as tropical forest wildlife is not threatened by poaching and that trees are protected from illegal logging. The former version of Carapa.org website is live at Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle.
